Cracking evening of Cricket see's St Johns take home boys title and Herbert Strutt win Girls trophy!

On a glorious evening for cricket at Quarndon CC both boys and girls events were played out in a brilliant spirit and finished with two worthy winners
In the boys competition the 6 finalists were split into two groups with each team competing for the top spot and the right to play in the final
In group A it was Waingroves Primary who came out on top ahead of Curzon Primary and Swanwick Primary to grab their place in the final
While in group B St Johns held off strong sides from Mundy Jr and Coppice Primary to win the group
In the first playoff match Mundy Junior proved too strong for Swanwick and grabbed themselves 5th spot while in the 3/4th playoff Coppice came out on top ahead of home team, Curzon Primary
In the final itself St Johns began strongly and set a solid target of 243 for Waingroves to chase, however it could have been much more if it wasnt for some outstanding bowling in the final 3 overs from Waingroves
Waingroves' chase began slowly but began to pick up and at one stage they looked on course for a fantastic victory, however as in the first innings, the death bowlers did the trick and St Johns took some late wickets to secure the title
Girls competition:
In the girls format 7 teams were competing for their place in the final across two groups. In group A St Johns finished ahead of Mundy Jr and Codnor Primary to emulate the boys and reach the final
While in group B Herbert Strutt proved too strong for Ripley Jr and Leys Jr to reach the final
In that final game St Johns batted first and despite a slow start set a respectable total for Herbert Strutt to chase, however some superb boundary hitting in the middle part of the innings was enough to take Herbert Strutt over the line and earn a deserved title
Congratulations to everyone who took part and good luck to St Johns ans Herbert Strutt in the county finals
